The 11th Pump & Valve Congress<\/strong> was held on 14\u201315 December 2023<\/strong> at the METU Culture and Convention Center in Ankara<\/strong>. Organized under the theme \u201cWater and Human 5.0\u201d<\/strong>, the Congress was jointly organized by the Department of Mechanical Engineering of Middle East Technical University (METU)<\/strong>, Istanbul Technical University Faculty of Mechanical Engineering (ITU)<\/strong>, and POMSAD (Turkish Pump and Valve Manufacturers\u2019 Association)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The Congress was supported by numerous national and international sectoral associations and federations. T\u00fcrkiye\u2019nin Makinecileri, AUMA, Duyar Vana, and Mas-Daf<\/strong> participated as Main Sponsors<\/strong>, while Alarko, Asteknik Vana, Do\u011fu\u015f Vana, Eagle Burgmann, KSB, Layne Bowler, G\u00f6ksan Pompa, Samsun Makine Sanayi, and Standart Pompa<\/strong> supported the event as Gold Sponsors<\/strong>. Several sectoral magazines and media organizations also took part as Media Sponsors<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The Congress officially opened on 14 December<\/strong> with opening speeches delivered by Prof. Dr. Erkan Ayder (ITU)<\/strong>, Ms. Nurdan Y\u00fccel<\/strong>, President of POMSAD and CEIR, Mr. Kutlu Karavelio\u011flu<\/strong>, Vice President of T\u0130M, and Prof. Dr. Ahmet Yozgatl\u0131gil<\/strong>, Deputy Minister of the Republic of T\u00fcrkiye Ministry of Industry and Technology.<\/p>\n

Following the opening speeches, Prof. Dr. Ahmet \u015eevket \u00dc\u00e7er (METU)<\/strong> delivered a keynote speech titled \u201cTechnology Development and Management\u201d<\/em>, while Prof. Dr. Mehmet Efe Biresselio\u011flu (Izmir University of Economics)<\/strong> addressed participants with his presentation titled \u201cThe Increasing Impact of Energy Security and Climate Change Concepts in Energy Policy-Making Processes.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

After the lunch break, the Conference Session began with Mr. \u00d6m\u00fcr Demir K\u0131z\u0131larslan<\/strong>, Sustainability Project Consultant of MA\u0130B, who presented \u201cQuo Vadis \u2013 Sustainability.\u201d<\/em> This was followed by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abd\u00fclkadir Bekta\u015f<\/strong>, Deputy President of the Climate Change Presidency, who delivered a presentation on \u201cCarbon Border Adjustment Mechanism and the Situation in T\u00fcrkiye.\u201d<\/em> The third presentation of the session was delivered by Prof. Dr. Haluk Karado\u011fan (ITU)<\/strong> titled \u201cIstanbul: A City That Never Gets Enough Water.\u201d<\/em> Subsequently, Prof. Dr. Y. Onur Devres<\/strong> presented \u201cHygienic Food Pumps and Valves,\u201d<\/em> and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tarkan G\u00fcrb\u00fcz (METU)<\/strong> delivered his presentation titled \u201cA Human-Centered Approach to Sustainable Development Goals: Transformation in Education.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Following a short break, the \u201cIn Memoriam Session for Our Lost Values\u201d<\/strong>, chaired by Prof. Dr. Erkan Ayder<\/strong>, was held. After a short film commemorating distinguished industrialists and academicians who had served the sector for many years, Mr. Vahdettin Y\u0131rtma\u00e7<\/strong>, General Manager of Mas-Daf T\u00fcrkiye, Prof. Dr. Haluk Karado\u011fan (ITU)<\/strong>, and Prof. Dr. Kahraman Albayrak (METU)<\/strong> shared their memories of these esteemed individuals with the participants.<\/p>\n

The first day concluded with a panel session titled \u201cWater and Human 5.0\u201d<\/strong>, moderated by Prof. Dr. Erkan Ayder<\/strong>. Panelists included Mr. Sinan \u00d6zg\u00fcr<\/strong>, General Manager of KSB T\u00fcrkiye, Mr. Z\u00fcht\u00fc Bak\u0131r<\/strong>, Secretary General of MAKFED, and Mr. Nazmi Ka\u011fn\u0131c\u0131o\u011flu<\/strong>, Head of Survey, Planning and Allocation Department at the State Hydraulic Works (DS\u0130). The theme was discussed from multiple perspectives.<\/p>\n

On 15 December<\/strong>, the Congress continued simultaneously in three halls with invited speakers, paper presentations, and technical training sessions. A total of 21 paper presentations<\/strong> were delivered on the second day. Invited speakers included Mr. Tun\u00e7 \u0130\u015fcan<\/strong>, Member Relations Representative of the Electrical Motor Manufacturers\u2019 Association (EMOSAD), who spoke on \u201cTransformation of Field Systems from an Energy Efficiency and Sustainability Perspective,\u201d<\/em> Dr. Adem Kayar<\/strong>, Head of the Digital Transformation Sector Board of ENOSAD, who presented \u201cDigital Transformation in Industry and Smart Pump Applications,\u201d<\/em> and Mr. Korcan Kayr\u0131n<\/strong>, Nuclear Industry Supply Consultant, who delivered a presentation titled \u201cNuclear Power Plants and Pumps & Valves.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

On the same day, technical training sessions were provided to students and participants from various companies. Two training sessions were delivered by Mr. Cem Aydo\u011fan<\/strong> and Mr. \u0130brahim\u015fah Zengin<\/strong> from Navist<\/strong>, and one session was delivered by Mr. Altan Ongun<\/strong> from DESICA Engineering<\/strong>. Navist\u2019s trainings covered topics such as Pipe Systems and Network Analysis with Flowmaster<\/em>, Pump Sizing<\/em>, and Pump and Valve Design and Optimization using CAESES and STAR-CCM+<\/em>. DESICA Engineering\u2019s training focused on Conceptual Design of Centrifugal and Mixed-Flow Pumps using the CFturbo Turbomachinery Design Platform, Parametric Decomposition of Existing Designs via Reverse Engineering Interface, and Fast Integrated CFD Solutions with CfTurbo Blade Runner.<\/em><\/p>\n

The closing speech of the Congress was delivered by Prof. Dr. Seyhan Uygur Onba\u015f\u0131o\u011flu (ITU)<\/strong>. Following her presentation titled \u201cHydrogen and Society from an Engineering Perspective,\u201d<\/em> the Congress concluded with the presentation of awards to sponsors and session chairs, as well as a prize draw among participants and paper presenters.<\/p>\n

Throughout the Congress, visitors also had the opportunity to visit the photo exhibition titled \u201cPumps and Valves in the 100th Anniversary of the Republic\u201d<\/strong> held in the exhibition hall. The exhibition showcased historical and contemporary photographs illustrating the development of member companies from past to present.<\/p>\n

The two-day Congress was visited by over 600 participants<\/strong> and was successfully completed with the participation of officials from water authorities of various provinces, ministries, the State Hydraulic Works, numerous public institutions and organizations, representatives from different industries, academics, and students.<\/p>\n
